What happens when you call?

When we first speak, I’ll ask you to tell me what led you to call and we’ll have a brief discussion. If I think I may be of help and if you are interested, we’ll make a prompt and mutually convenient appointment for an initial session. We’ll discuss my fee and directions to my counselling room. If I don’t seem to be the right person for you or your situation, I will be happy to help you find someone who might be.

If I’m with a client or otherwise unavailable, you’ll get my confidential voice-mail. My practice is to return calls that day.

If you let me know that you are in distress or in crisis when you call, I will do my best to respond quickly and appropriately.

At our first session

  • I’ll want to find out more about you, your situation, and background
  • I’ll answer whatever questions you have about me
  • We’ll talk about the work we might do together and about confidentiality and other boundaries that help make counselling safe
  • If you decide to continue seeing me, we’ll agree on an initial number of sessions and a plan to review our progress
